Soldier in the rain is based on the novel by William Goldman and was partly inspired by his time in the U.S. Army. The movie stars Steve McQueen as Clay, as a slightly dimwitted Sergeant who befriends Master Sergeant Slaughter (Gleason). The duo forms an unlikely friendship, with Clay trying to tempt the Master Sergeant out of the Army, and they both become involved in various schemes...
